500 Games - 1 Year - Game #14

‘Catch the Moon’ from Kosmos is a game I have been trying to get my hands on for some time, so was over the…..er…moon (sorry) this week to finally be able to add it to my collection and play it as the latest game in my ‘500 Games in 1 Year’ series!

‘Catch The Moon’ as you can see is a wonderful game visually with a nice relaxing theme and the whole product just looks and feel ‘cute’. The object of the game is to add sets of ladders to an ever expanding construction to attempt to ‘Catch the Moon’. On your turn you are rolling a dice, which will tell you weather to add a ladder that touches only one other ladder, a ladder that touches EXACTLY two ladders or to add your ladder to the very top of the construction. You then grab your ladder and attempt to play. As soon as you let go of your ladder your turn is over.  If any ladders fall or you fail to meet the objectives of your roll, then you take one of the 7 raindrops.

The game ends when all 7 raindrops have been used, and the person with the least wins! In addition to the competitive mode is both a co-operative mode and a solo mode which you can rank your achievements on via a grading chart. This may not sound appealing on the surface, but once you have experienced ‘Catch the Moon’, the relaxing nature of the game and theme will draw you in to want to play more and more!

As a dexterity/stacking game, ‘Catch the Moon’ just works! Its an ideal family game, and fun for couples too and works really well at two players as well as four. Games go buy quickly, the ‘just one more play’ element will have you coming back for more and its just a really fun experience.

In terms of younger gamers, as long as your children can stack and roll a dice, I don’t see any reasons why children of all ages can’t enjoy Catch the Moon. My daughter is 4 and can play this and even compete without any issues’ and in a matter of days this has developed into one of our favourite family games to get to the table.

Highly recommended!
