500 Games - 1 Year - #6 - HONK!

'Honk' from Sinister Games is the first game in my '500 Games in 1 Year' Challenge that is brand new to me for 2024. With a young family, I am always on the look out for titles that appeal to both the adults and children in the household....and Honk! fits that bill superbly!

As the box art above suggest 'Honk' is a game that revolves around Geese. You score points for collecting Geese and Eggs, aiming to uncover the  golden eggs at the end of the game and trying to collect as many sets of the same Geese type as possible.

The game begins in the simplest of ways, placing down Golden Eggs and then covering them with Geese. Each Geese has a food cost that must be paid before you can pick it from the pile and it must not be covered by another element. Each turn players must take either two food cards or pick a Goose. You earn one egg for every Goose picked, but more eggs for the more Geese you have of that variety. Should you fully uncover a Golden Egg during your turn, its yours to keep and you earn its point value. Once the last Goose is picked, tally up your score and whoever has the most points wins.

What I really love about this game, is the fact that not only is it very fun and quick paced with an element of strategy, but it also teaches younger and new gamers core mechanics that will help in future gaming as they advance in age.

But putting all that aside, Honk is just a good, fun game and given its target audience and what it sets out to achieve, I really cannot say a bad word about it!
