500 Games - 1 Year - 'My City: Roll and Build'
As my quest to play ‘500 Games in 1 Year’ reached #70 I get
to one of my favourite games so far ‘My City: Roll and Build’.
This is a superb ‘Roll and Draw’ style game in which you are
working your way through a Legacy campaign to compile cities based on the roll
of your dice and maximising your score based on the ever-developing scoring
criteria. Three dice are rolled every round which will determine the style of
shape you must draw and the type of land it will be…..and other than the HUGE
pad of scoring sheets, that is all you require for ‘My City Roll and Build’.
The game, as mentioned, is presented campaign style with
ever developing Chapters and Episodes. ‘My City’ eases players into the game
wonderfully, gradually increasing the difficulty as extra elements come into
play. This learning curve is terrific and one of the best judged I have seen in
a campaign style legacy game. (…and given how many sheets you get to use, this
is a Legacy game that can be played many many times over)
The game is pitched at 1-6 players, but in essence, it works
just as well Solo as it does in a group, as much of the time you are working independently
anyway to achieve your scoring aims. In terms of ages, the 10+ on the box is
perhaps a tad high but certainly this isn’t a game for younger children and Id
suggest 7 upwards is more appropriate. It would also be very easy and fun
playing with combined teams of adult and children!
