500 Games - 1 Year - Kim Joys Magical Bakery
I will be the first to admit that prior to being offered ‘Kim
Joys Magical Bakery’ in a trade, I had never heard of either Kim Joy or the
game itself. My hopes in acquiring it in the trade was it that it might be
something fun for the family to play together…..what an understatement that
turned out to be!
‘Kim Joys Magical Bakery’ is a co-operative card game in
which you are working together as a team to serve customers in a bakery. You
are required to use teamwork to manage your hands, plan bakes and ultimately make
sure you serve the customer before they leave the store. You are playing with two
markets worth of cards (ingredients and the ‘layers’ you bake’ as well as cards
in your hand. Every turn involves you taking multiple actions which you can
openly discuss with your team. Thus we found that planning turns and making
sure each player had the right cards in hand at the right time was a central
part of the game (and one of the most enjoyable).
The core game can be played as a points race against your
team, trying to make sure you serve as many customer as possible. Bu the core
game is 10 scenarios which you work through, gaining star ratings on each. I
won’t spoil too much as we found the element of surprise moving from scenario
to scenario really added to the game itself.
The game is easy to set up, easy to learn and very fun and
fast paced to play. But be warned, the game gets very addictive very quickly and
the scenarios get quite challenging as the game progresses onwards.
In terms of ages, with it being co-operative I think most
children aged 4 plus could play and enjoy this. My little girl is 4 and was
really involved and could grasp what was happening. The theme of the game is
also very appealing for little ones!
Overall, if you are looking for a co-operative family card
game, then look no further than ‘Kim Joys Magical Bakery’. I suspect that we
will get many games of this running without the little around the table as
well!
